Dear Friends,
Could you help us make Christmas happen for some families?
Christmas is only 49 days away! I know, right? How did that happen so fast?
Part of what makes Christmas so special is the joy of giving, especially giving gifts to the children in our lives. Seeing the wonder and excitement on the face of a kid who has opened that gift you have selected especially for them, well, it is one my favorite things about the season.
After years of working with families who struggle economically, I have learned that Christmas can be a time of despair. The inability to give your kids a special gift while others around are able to, can be a source of guilt or shame. That is why for years the United Methodist Women have been collecting toys to support the Cass Community and Redford Brightmoor Christmas stores. Both of these stores are located in low-income communities and provide hundreds of residents with an opportunity to shop for gifts, wrap them, and put some joy under their trees this Christmas.
That is why, in the lead up to Christmas, I am asking you to go out and buy three things:
a toy
a winter coat
and a pair of boots
Bring them to church throughout the month of November. It will be a joy to add these blessings to the other churches, joining together to make the joy of gift giving a reality for so many families.
Three simple ways to make Christ’s love real this Christmas: a toy, a coat and a pair of boots.
Together we are making a difference!
Grace and Peace,
